November 2026 | Beti Films News

Beti Films founder and documentary filmmaker Margaret Byrne has been named to Newcity's Film 50 2026, recognizing Chicago's filmmakers, artists and industry professionals shaping the city's film community.

In her conversation with Ray Pride, Margaret discusses the importance of protecting independent filmmaking, especially documentaries that challenge institutions, confront difficult histories and take years to complete.

The profile also highlights her current projects, including Post Conviction, To Catch a Case, Law & Mother and a documentary about Kartemquin co-founder Gordon Quinn.

For Margaret, filmmaking and teaching are deeply connected. Both are rooted in collaboration, curiosity and a commitment to stories that might otherwise go untold.

We're grateful to Newcity for recognizing the artists and filmmakers who make Chicago such an important place for independent cinema.
